Bold Roast

  • 2012 was again a super year for Mokk-a, with sales increasing 165% over 2011!  The marketing plan put in place by my super-creative team, NBC Artworks, began Tweeting, increasing our Facebook presence, and pushing to drive our specialty retail and internet sales. The year started with the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco.  We met a lot of new buyers, enjoyed a reception hosted by the Dutch Consulate Office, and ended with a very successful three days.  The year was full of travel, making new contacts, and selling “my wares” ...Read More »

  • With the help of my creative team and some die-hard friends, Mokk-a hosted a two-day special event the end of September in the five Dallas/Ft Worth Central Market stores.  We served coffee on black trays proudly set with black and white Mokk-a cups, and gave away one special Mokk-a gift box in each store filled with coffee, Mokk-a coffee cups, and our new, hot-off-the-press Mokk-a T's!  What fun it was running through airports sporting my new shirt on the way to Boston! It was a tremendous success!Read More »

  • Story about and written by Margot Dockrell When I was a girl visiting my Finnish grandparents in northern Minnesota with my mother, we would often run into one of her childhood friends in a shop or on the street.  After dutifully noting how much I had grown, they would invariably extend the same invitation: “Come by the house later this afternoon (or tomorrow morning or someday) for ‘coffee and’.”  With the slightly flat and nasal “a” of the Missabe Iron Range, it came out “ca-affee an’.”  At whatever age one is exceedingly rule-bound, I strenuously objected: Please finish the sentence: coffee and ...Read More »

  • Bio Karen Glavimans/The Creation of Mokk-a This is the story of an American coffee lover determined to bring Europe’s finest coffees home. I followed my dream to the tiniest, most romantic villages in Europe…the passionate south of Italy, the trade area of Sweden and the Bourgogne region in rural France. My search began while traveling in Sweden with some friends. We stopped at a café and it was there that I fell in love. The coffee’s flavor was exquisite. I lingered in that café until they told where it came from. It was the divine creation of a very small local roaster. I ...Read More »
